Disclaimer:

This blog is based on my personal awareness and insights regarding scams in 2024. Please note that new scams are constantly emerging, and it is essential to stay vigilant and informed about the happenings around you. Always exercise caution and verify information independently to protect yourself.

How to recognise a Scammer?

1. He/She will tell you to keep it confidential.

2. If He/She gains Trust, His/Her first associated problem will be Money.

3. Mental Harassment, Not giving you enough time to think.

4. Tries to Scare you in a way that it may ruin your reputation or respect around.

5. Follows same script (if you had doubts, hung up and research on internet).

6. There is no limit for amount of money they will extract from you.

While there can be many suspicious points, These Stand as common points between all scammers

Why is Awareness on Scams Important?

As scams can drain all our hard-earned money in an instant, it is important for us to be aware of scams happening around.

We don't want to face any financial trouble because of scams.

Here in this blog/video, I will be posting about a few scams that I am aware of.

You can feel free to post in the comments of the video or blog about any scam you came across, as this can help us protect our hard-earned money together.

1.Nude Video call scams

You will be getting a WhatsApp call from Unknown number, once you have answered it, An Opposite Gender person appears nude on call. takes screenshot with you

And then blackmails you that they will be posting this picture in social media sites, and not to do so, we need to pay some hefty amount.

Prevent:

Do not attempt unknown calls, especially video calls on WhatsApp. Block immediately if suspicious.

2. Matrimonial Scams

Here mostly women become targets, As they will befriend you. they will have nice picture as profile which usually is not them.

Once they have gained your Trust by taking in sweet manner, They would say they are in problem and would ask you money (most cases women think that this can be dowry )

I personally know few women who got scammed here.

Prevent:

Discuss with your family or at least one trusted friend before lending such a huge amount of money. Scammers might harass or create tension to pressure you into giving them money.

3. Multi-Marketing Scams

Here idea is to show you and pose themselves as a very rich persons, they would brainwash you into thinking that you can also earn this amount of Money , if you pay them some amount, they will make you partners of Business. They will try to hide as many details as possible because once you know it is network marketing, you will not join. And they will also tell you not to tell about this scheme to anyone(Red Flag), cause every business needs advertising. Keeping it secret is something going on.

Prevent:

Keep far away from these individuals if they tell to keep their business confidential, as they will try to brainwash you into believing that what they are doing is a legal business and that network marketing is not a scam.

4. Custom Duty Scams

Here,You will meet a friend on Instagram, he will befriend you.Gain your Trust,

Once gained, You will be told about a situation where a particular product is stuck at Customs office and they will Promise you to return your money.

Prevent:

Keep your profiles private and only accept people you know. Do not trust a person on the internet whom you have never met in person.

5. Illegal Products Scam

You will get a call saying that there was a courier and Drug was in it. Since courier was at your passport or Aadhar Card name, There was an FIR filed and police would talk to you.

Once Police is on call, he will tell there is a huge illegal transaction happened and you need to settle it now , else you will be Arrested

Prevent:

Block immediately, as police contacts will not be on social media sites like WhatsApp, and they will never issue an arrest warrant digitally.

6. Money Doubling Scam

Here a random person on Telegram or Instagram, tells you that if you trust and Invest. You will have lakhs of rupees (They will show messages of some 2 lakhs or 4 lakhs received), to believe them and invest in CryptoCurrency.

To gain Trust, they will ask you to invest 100 and they will transfer you 200

and invest 200, they will transfer you 400

once you trust and send hefty amount, They will say that money has been locked out and to unlock you need to pay extra

Prevent:

Once you get 200 or 400, take that extra amount and block them immediately.

7. Call forwarding Scams

There might be random people asking your mobile to make a call as their mobile has turned off and they need to make an urgent call

once you give them your phone, they will dial a number which makes all your calls and sms to go to their number

Prevent:

Ask them to speak on speaker, request them to provide their number, and you can dial it yourself to check on their authenticity.

8. Unknown Links

This could be most dangerous scam, you might get it like Spin a wheel, or saying that there is some link that can give yo crores of rupess

Prevent:

Use link authenticator tools if suspicious:

9. AI Call

Here you will get a call from a Person that you know but from different contact number , stating you that there is an emergency and money is needed, Voice of your known person will be generated by AI

And also they will request you to send money on a different UPI ID of them than that you know

Prevent:

Call the authentic person directly on their contact mobile number to verify if there is really an emergency.

10. Job Scams

You will be reached out via call posing themselves as HR and you will be interviewed

Even if you perform worst, you will still be selected. They will ask you for Training fee as mandate to join their company

Prevent:

NO company asks money from an employee for training.

Personal Tips to Safeguard Your Money

Disclaimer:

Scams can evolve over time, so it's crucial to safeguard your hard-earned money. Below are personal tips shared with good intentions. Please remember that I am not a financial advisor, and these suggestions are based solely on personal experience. Feel free to disregard any advice that doesn't resonate with you.

1. Learn to say "NO"

Mostly when we hear that there is a need of money, and when we were asked, We fail to say NO in a context that these are our people and they will return our money

2. Be Selfish about Money

It might be sounding rude, But being selfish about money can help you protect your peace

3. Keep Limits for Product

Lets say, you want to go for movie, Movie ticket cost is 1300. Tell to yourself that my limit is only 150 for a Movie and if price is beyond that do not involve in purchase.

It can be applied to any Non-Essential Products like Mobile phone, keep a budget of 10k

4. Increased Income means Increased Investment.

Lot of People once they get huge income , they start spending to that level. My suggestion would be your expenditure and expenses must be same like you used to get before and excess amount must be used for building your wealth or Emergency funds

5. Lend Money with Interest

If you are lending a hefty money, lend with Interest even for Friends.

Apart from interest, lend money only to a friend when you know their address and you trust them. In case there is no BOND or AGREEMENT while lending money and it is given purely based on Trust. Ask your friends Aadhar Card or License to you. This can help you lodge an FIR in case your friend denies to return money

And also taking with interest, your money will be prioritized to give back as soon as possible to reduce interest

This Brings me to a famous dialogue from a Telugu Movie called "PAISA" - "Nuv Lakshmi Devi Cheyi Pattukuntene Lakshmi Devi ni cheyi pattukuntaadi"

In a simple translation, Money will love you only if you love it.
